The Research Unit will exploit its experience with various tasks of interhemispheric communication in order to identify selective callosal routes for specific interactions between the hemispheres, in relation with the cortical areas of origin and termination of the callosal fibers in question. The proposed approach is to utilize in subjects with selective and circumscribed callosal defects well known paradigms which bear out symptoms of interhemispheric disconnection in subjects with a total lack of the corpus callosum. Moreover, an attempt will be made to assess a putative role of the anterior commissure in visual interhemispheric communication by examining subjects with a total absence of the corpus callosum who however do not exhibit a complete visuo-verbal disconnection between the left visual field and the left hemisphere.
