Bodily self-perception contributes to shaping our identity and the experience of the external world. Two main components of bodily self-perception are the sense of body ownership and the sense of agency. The sense of body ownership refers to the feeling that the body belongs to oneself, while the sense of agency is the feeling of voluntarily controlling our body movements and their effects in the external environment. The course will review recent behavioural, neuroimaging, and neurophysiological findings on these two main components of bodily self-perception in healthy and pathological conditions.
