Barbara Cisterna got her B.Sc. in Biology (University of Pavia) and then her PhD in Cell Biology (University of Pavia). She has carried out research activity at the Laboratory of Cell Biology of the University of Pavia and at the Laboratory of Renal Immunopathology of the University of Torino. Since 2012 she has been working at the Anatomy and Histology section of the University of Verona.
Cell biology with specific attention to the nucleus metabolism. The analyses are mainly performed by several imaging techniques.
- Cell nucleus
- Structural and functional modifications induced by nanoparticles in in vitro and in vivo models
- Effect of physical exercise in skeletal muscle under sarcopenic conditions and in animal models of Down Syndrome

Anthropometry and body composition
Studies of anthropometry and body composition under physiological and pathological conditions
Studies on cell and tissue biology in basic and applied biomedicine by means of microscopic and multimodal imaging techniques
This research field concerns the image analysis of biological structures, from the subcellular level to the whole organism, taking into consideration also their function.
